We are Notoco (''No-TOE-Co'' - Nash Otoscope
Co.). We started over 25 years ago after Peace Corps service, when our kids had ear problems and there was nothing
available for home monitoring of ear infections. We found out that the ear lights that doctors use are called
''otoscopes'' and that they are expensive, but that if we had one we could check our kids' ears at home. We did a
lot of research with the help of Pediatricians, Family Doctors, Ear/Nose/Throat Specialists and Audiologists, and then
developed the ''Earscope,'' the first home use otoscope.
We make otoscopes for both medical providers
and for home users. That means that these units are easy enough to use for lay people, but good enough for
professionals who use them all the time. Our otoscopes are made entirely in the U.S.A. We assemble our products in
a small town, hire and buy locally as much as possible, recycle and use recycled materials wherever feasible, give
handicapped kids from local schools work experience, and try to be good company citizens to our community and our
employees. We answer our own telephones during business hours, M-F, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Pacific Time.
We have become interested in the less invasive responses to children's ear infections as commonly
practiced in other parts of the world, notably in Europe. This includes a greater emphasis on the body's own natural
defenses, and the avoidance of antibiotics or surgery unless absolutely necessary. We agree with a growing number of
medical practitioners in the US who practice ''watchful waiting''. Most parents are quite able to learn to use an
Earscope, and with better information can make better decisions about their kid's ear health. Having parents use
Earscopes doesn't make them doctors any more than using home thermometers does - they just get better
information. Our customers tell us that they get better medical services if they themselves are well informed when they
call the doctor. By calling only when necessary and with good information (''I can see a bulging ear drum.'' or
''There is no sign of ear infection.'') everyone seems to save time, money and undue anxiety.
A
long-time friend and ear expert, Rod Moser, PA, Ph.D., has written a book, "EARS, an Owner's Manual," with many
color illustrations, that gives authoritative and detailed information about how to handle ear problems at home. Parents
tell us that the Earscope along with the EARS book empowers them to be in control of their kids' ear ailments.
We offer our Earscopes and other related ear products with pride, a money-back guarantee, and 25 plus
years of very satisfied customers. See our product information (earscope and pocket otoscope) sections.
